The 6th Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region 2017 in Budapest, is jointly organised by Hungary (current Presidency of the EUSDR), the European Commission (Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy - DG REGIO) and the Danube Transnational Programme.
On September 29 2016, Environmental Pollution Prevention Office within the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Moldova has organized the workshop on presentation of the technical concept of the Center for Hazardous Waste Management in Moldova, the participants were representatives of relevant ministries, state agencies and district councils.
Within the framework of the Project “Inventory, Assessment and Remediation of Anthropogenic Sources of Pollution in the Lower Danube Region of Ukraine, Romania and Republic of Moldova” (MIS-ETC Code 995) on 16-21 of August UkrSCES specialists performed the survey of the water and bottom sediments on the 12 monitoring stations:
On Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in the premise of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Odessa Regional State Administration, Ukraine was held Partners Meeting within the Inventory, Assessment and Remediation of Anthropogenic Sources of Pollution in the Lower Danube Region of Ukraine, Romania and Republic of Moldova LSP Project (MIS-ETC 995).
On 11th of February 2016, The Association of Cross-Border Cooperation "Lower Danube Euroregion" Galati, as Partner 5 in the project, organized the thematic workshop entitled “"State of the Environment in the Lower Danube Region". 54 persons attended the event, representatives of public institutions and authorities, NGOs and other interested parties.

On November 3, 2015, in Chisinau, Environmental Pollution Prevention Office within the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Moldova organized the kick off conference to present the project "Inventory, assessment and remediation of anthropogenic sources of pollution in the Lower Danube region of Ukraine, Romania and Republic of Moldova "( MIS ETC 995) implemented with the support of the Joint Operational Programme Romania-Ukraine- Republic of Moldova (2007-2013).
The objective of the project "Inventory, assessment and remediation of anthropogenic sources of pollution in the Lower Danube region of Ukraine, Romania and republic of Moldova" (MIS ETC 995) implemented by the consortium guided by the state Department of Environmental Protection in Odessa with financial support of Joint Operational Programme Romania – Ukraine- Republic of Moldova - (EUR = 5.81954 million project budget UAH 86,671,573.13) is to reduce the environmental impact of chemical storages and discharges of sewage into the Lower Danube region and increasing capacity monitoring soil and water, including extensive information to main stakeholders.
One of the priority activities of the Project for Moldova is to develop prerequisites for establishment of of hazardous waste management center provided by Government Decision no. 973 of 18.10.2010 "On approval of the national program for sound management of chemicals in Moldova".
The conference will gather representatives of the seven project partners, the donor community, Program Regional Office, the central public authorities and economic operators will aim to establish lines of action in order to ensure that cross-border cooperation to protect the Danube River.

Workshop for presentation of sampling and laboratory analyses results
and provision recommendations for treatment of expired chemicals and waste

Hosted by the EPPO and chaired by Mr. Lazăr Chirică, Deputy Minister of Environment,
the aim of the workshop was to present the results of the laboratory
analyses and to provide recommendations and options for handling and treatment
of hazardous waste flows identified to the economic operators from Moldova, that
were part of the inventory of stocks of the industrial waste and expired chemicals,
that are stored at their enterprises. For some of the stocks the local treatment or
safeguarding was proposed, however there was a number of enterprises, that have
to seek for the opportunities for their haz waste treatment abroad, due to lack of
such treatment facilities in Moldova.
The results of the workshop and discussions laid groundwork for establishing the
features and waste streams of Centre for Hazardous Waste Management in
Moldova. The profile of activities of the Centre will include, among others,
logistics and/or treatment for hazardous waste streams, such as POPs, mercury
waste, batteries and accumulators, WEEE and end-of life vehicles and their export
for final disposal, as well as possibilities for receiving and distributing treatments
of other types of hazardous waste.
On May 29, 2015 in the city Vylkove there was held the seminar " Risks and threats from pollution sources (on the example of the Lower Danube region)", organized in the framework of the large-scale project “Inventory, Assessment and Remediation of Anthropogenic Sources of Pollution in the Lower Danube Region of Ukraine, Romania and Republic of Moldova”, MIS-ETC 995 within the Joint Operational Programme Romania-Ukraine-Republic of Moldova 2007-2013, which is funded by the European Union through the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument and co-financed by the participating count
