Common borders. Common solutions. The Joint Operational Programme Romania-Ukraine-Republic of Moldova 2007-2013 is financed by the European Union through the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument and co-financed by the participating countries in the programme.
Inventory, Assessment and Remediation of Anthropogenic Sources of Pollution in the Lower Danube Region of Ukraine, Romania and Republic of Moldova (MIS-ETC Code 995)
Hosted by the EPPO and chaired by Mr. Lazăr Chirică, Deputy Minister of Environment,
the aim of the workshop was to present the results of the laboratory
analyses and to provide recommendations and options for handling and treatment
of hazardous waste flows identified to the economic operators from Moldova, that
were part of the inventory of stocks of the industrial waste and expired chemicals,
that are stored at their enterprises. For some of the stocks the local treatment or
safeguarding was proposed, however there was a number of enterprises, that have
to seek for the opportunities for their haz waste treatment abroad, due to lack of
such treatment facilities in Moldova.
The results of the workshop and discussions laid groundwork for establishing the
features and waste streams of Centre for Hazardous Waste Management in
Moldova. The profile of activities of the Centre will include, among others,
logistics and/or treatment for hazardous waste streams, such as POPs, mercury
waste, batteries and accumulators, WEEE and end-of life vehicles and their export
for final disposal, as well as possibilities for receiving and distributing treatments
of other types of hazardous waste.
